Design and Planning
-
We design, make and install bespoke, handmade kitchens, along with bespoke furniture, fitted furniture, joinery and made to measure wardrobes. Alongside the kitchen itself we make larders, pantries, drinks larders, dressers, islands, boot rooms, utility and laundry rooms, wine rooms and fitted storage. Everything is made in our workshop at Plummers Plain, near Horsham, West Sussex.
-
We meet you to talk through your ideas, offering inspiration, advice and guidance as you explore what is possible. We aim to understand your requirements, your design aspirations and how you will use the space, and we take initial measurements. A narrow price range is agreed at the consultation stage, so you have peace of mind around your budget from the start.
-
Yes. Every Sylvan kitchen is individually designed to complement your lifestyle. Each design component is carefully considered and tailored to your needs, from the layout of the room to the inside of each drawer and cupboard. We produce technical designs that unite beauty and function, so each kitchen is planned around your room and the way you will use it.
-
Our signature look is in frame cabinetry painted in named heritage colours, and we make in frame, shaker and panelled doors, with all finishing completed in our workshop before installation. We also make our own Lancaster range, which has clean lines on both the doors and the framework between a subtly profiled plinth and cornice.
-
Yes. During the design stage we guide you through your options for materials, finishes and appliances, so that each choice suits the design and the way you will use the kitchen. Once the drawings are complete and your choices are made, we confirm the final price, so you know exactly where you stand before your kitchen is made.
-
Yes. Several of our projects include rooms and storage beyond the kitchen itself. Meadowcroft has a dry goods larder, a drinks preparation larder, a boot room and an oak wine room. Downend has a walk in wine room behind black steel glazed doors, and Birds Hill has a bespoke larder and a separate walk in pantry with a glass display cabinet.
-

Yes. The Lancaster range is our own range of cabinetry. It is a modern classic that sits perfectly in many period properties, and equally well in newly built homes, with clean lines on both the doors and the framework between a subtly profiled plinth and cornice. You can see it at Malbrook, painted in Farrow & Ball All White with an island in Hague Blue.
-
We obtain our materials from managed sources and as locally as possible. Like many businesses, we keep the effect we have on the environment at the forefront of our minds, and we work to minimise waste and emissions. As an independently owned, local business, we take our responsibilities to our people and the planet very seriously.
Installation
-
To install a Sylvan kitchen to our exacting standards, we usually need a three week window on site at your home. The timescales for your whole project, including design and manufacture, are agreed with you at the scheduling stage, because they depend on your wider project, the other trades involved and our production schedule.
-
Sylvan Design installs every kitchen it makes, as part of the complete service we offer directly from our workshop. During installation we liaise with the other trades working in your home, organise specialist contractors where needed and make sure you are happy with your new kitchen.
-
Plumbing, electrics, plastering and flooring are carried out by the specialist trades on your project. As part of installation we liaise with those trades and organise specialist contractors where they are needed, so that the work around your kitchen is coordinated and carried out in the right order.
-
Yes. If your kitchen is part of a larger project, such as an extension or a renovation, we plan around it. At the scheduling stage we agree timescales with you and coordinate our availability and production schedule with your overall project and the other trades involved, and during installation we liaise with the other trades on site.
Pricing and Payments
-
Every Sylvan kitchen is designed for its own room, so the cost depends on the size of the kitchen, the materials and finishes you choose, any larders or other storage you include and your appliances. We agree a narrow price range with you early, at the consultation stage, and confirm a final price once the drawings are complete and your choices have been made.
-
A final price is confirmed once the drawings are complete and your materials, finishes and appliances have been chosen. Before that, a narrow price range is agreed at the consultation stage, so you have peace of mind around your budget from the start and the design can be developed with that range in mind.
-
Yes. We ask for deposits to secure your manufacturing slot in our workshop and so that the design work can be undertaken. Costings, a payment schedule and deposits are discussed with you at the scheduling stage, after we have agreed timescales and coordinated our production schedule with your wider project.
-
After the deposit, we spread the cost of your kitchen in stages directly linked to our process. Your payments follow the progress of the work, so you are always fully in control of your project, and the payment schedule itself is something we discuss with you at the scheduling stage.
Aftercare
-
Once you have settled back into your new space, we check that you are completely happy with your kitchen. This is the time to make any small adjustments, for example to drawers, so that everything works exactly as it should. Aftercare is the sixth and final stage of our process, and it follows every kitchen we install.
-

We combine traditional techniques with modern precision, and every kitchen is handmade to your exact specification in our workshop near Horsham, with all finishing completed there before installation. Once you have settled in, our aftercare stage also gives us the chance to check that you are completely happy.
