A Kitchen Seen in Detail
The Aldwick kitchen is painted in a very pale grey, with a navy island at its centre. The range is set into a painted chimney breast beneath a deep cornice, with an antiqued mirror splashback and a small cupboard in the pillar on each side. Curved end cupboards finish the runs of cabinetry, and the island has a sink, a white top and open shelves for cookbooks between two cupboards.
The same care reaches the smaller details. The doors and drawers are set inside a beaded frame, and the drawer boxes are made in natural wood with dovetailed corners. Polished cup handles are used on the drawers and polished knobs on the doors, with the knobs on the navy island mounted on square backplates. One drawer holds a natural wood knife block between two lined compartments, and the larder door opens on a spice rack fitted to its inside face.
Every piece was handmade and painted in our workshop, with all finishing completed before installation, and fitted by our own team. We plan details such as handles, drawer fittings and larder racks with you at the design stage. Sylvan Design makes bespoke kitchens near Horsham, West Sussex, for homes across Surrey, Sussex, Kent and London, and every kitchen we make carries a lifetime guarantee.

Kitchen
Very pale grey in frame cabinetry runs around the room, with curved end cupboards and a range set into a painted chimney breast beneath a deep cornice. An antiqued mirror splashback fills the space behind the range, with a small cupboard in the pillar on each side.

Navy Island
The island is painted navy, with a sink set into its white top and open shelves for cookbooks between two cupboards. Its doors have polished knobs on square backplates.

Larder
A tall larder door opens on a spice rack in natural wood fitted to its inside face. Its shelves keep jars and bottles in view.

A dovetail is a traditional cabinet making joint in which the sides of a drawer interlock with its front and back, so the drawer stays strong in daily use. At Aldwick the drawer boxes are made in natural wood with dovetailed corners, behind painted fronts set inside a beaded frame, and one drawer holds a fitted knife block.

Yes. At Aldwick the main cabinetry is a very pale grey and the island is navy, which gives the room a focal point. We paint in named heritage colours, and at the design stage we give guidance on colours and finishes, including how an island colour sits with the rest of the room. All painting and finishing is completed in our workshop.

Yes. The Aldwick island has open shelves for cookbooks at its centre, between two cupboards, with a sink set into its white top. An island can hold drawers, cupboards, shelves or seating, and we plan its layout with you at the design stage so that it suits how you will use the kitchen.
